A summer beach in Trapani – Sicily by Silva Wischeropp

This coastal beach scene was captured in the late evening of 11 July 2019 using a Nikon D90.
Trapani is a charming port city on the west coast of Sicily, renowned for its historic old town and its strategic location as the gateway to the Aegadian Islands. The city offers beaches in the immediate vicinity of the centre as well as spectacular stretches of coastline in the surrounding area.
Beaches in and around Trapani
Spiaggia delle Mura di Tramontana: This narrow sandy beach lies directly beneath the northern city walls of the old town. It is ideal for a quick dip in between activities and offers a unique backdrop with views of the historic centre.
San Giuliano: The town’s main beach is situated at the northern end of the Erice seafront promenade, but borders directly on Trapani. It is about two kilometres long, featuring fine white sand and crystal-clear water, as well as numerous beach resorts (Lidi) with sun loungers and catering facilities.

San Vito lo Capo: About a 40-minute drive from Trapani lies this world-famous beach, often referred to as the ‘Sicilian Tahiti’. It is characterised by its very light-coloured sand and turquoise-blue, shallow waters.

Aegadian Islands (Favignana, Levanzo, Marettimo): The islands can be reached quickly by ferry from the port in Trapani.
Favignana in particular is famous for bays such as Cala Rossa and Cala Azzurra, which are among the most beautiful in Italy.

The salt pans of Trapani: To the south of the city lie the historic salt pans with their characteristic windmills. Sea salt is still harvested here today using traditional methods.
