About ‘A solitary post in the IJsselmeer’ by SR Blaauw

A single wooden pole breaks the silence of a vast watery landscape. The long exposure time has transformed the water into a smooth, almost silky surface in which every ripple seems to have vanished. The horizon divides the image into two simple planes: the soft blue-grey of the water and the ominous sky above it.

To the left of the horizon lies a narrow strip of land, whilst on the far right the outlines of a distant row of windmills are just visible. It is precisely these subtle details that give the image depth and a sense of endless space. The solitary post immediately catches the eye and forms a powerful focal point in an otherwise minimalist composition.

With this photograph, I wanted to capture the tranquillity and vast emptiness of the IJsselmeer. A long exposure time creates a still atmosphere in which time seems almost to stand still. The work exudes calm and invites the viewer to take a moment’s respite from the hustle and bustle of everyday life.

With its soft colours and minimalist aesthetic, this piece fits beautifully into a modern interior, office or bedroom. An image for those who appreciate tranquillity, space and the unique beauty of the Dutch coastal landscape.
