A solitary basketball hoop in the mist

by Henk Egbertzen

A basketball hoop stands abandoned on an empty field. All around it are bare trees, which slowly fade into a thick, grey mist. No players, no sound. Just silence.

-
It is the contrast that makes the image so powerful. The hoop is a man-made, industrial object, set amidst nature. But the fog and the bare trees give the impression that nature is slowly reclaiming the space. As if the court has been abandoned for years.

- The colours are muted. Grey, black, a hint of old brown. No bright colours, no distractions. This reinforces the sense of solitude and tranquillity. As if you were walking through a deserted park on an early Sunday morning.

- The style is purely photographic. No filters, no tricks. Just the moment when the mist covers everything and the world stands still for a moment. Wabi-sabi in its purest form.

- It’s an image you keep looking at. Not because it’s beautiful in the traditional sense, but because it evokes a feeling. A feeling of stillness, of distance, of being briefly removed from the world. - This piece looks great in a hallway, office or modern living room. For those who love tranquil, minimalist photography. For those who want to add a dark, mysterious touch to their interior.
