"A piece of star anise" is a macro photo of part of a star anise. When making this photo, I chose a shallow depth of field, so part of it is sharp (the seed in the middle and the broken seed and part of this edge of the star anise) and the rest becomes increasingly blurred, the farther it is from the focus point. This creates depth in the work. The star anise lies on a mirrored surface, so you can also partly see the underside of the star anise. The woody structure can be seen in the mirror as a kind of natural background. The warm colours of the star anise also immediately give the work a warm (autumnal) cosy atmosphere. The woody structure of the outside of the star anise gives it a natural feel at the same time.
This work could hang beautifully in the dining room, kitchen or restaurant, but of course also just above the sofa
