A nuclear cloud of colours in a glass vase

by TheXclusive Art

The painting ‘Nuclear Cloud of Colours in a Glass Vase’ depicts a classically shaped glass vase in which an entire mushroom cloud is captured. From a glowing orange column in the centre, the cloud fans out widely in shades of violet, turquoise, coral red and soft cream. At the bottom of the vase lies a layer of rolling clouds that makes the whole scene resemble a landscape. The power lies in the detailing of the smoke. Every curl and fold is sharply rendered, so that the cloud feels dense and heavy whilst at the same time appearing to move. The light emanates entirely from the heart of the column and radiates outwards through the surrounding layers, causing the warm tones to glow from within whilst the cooler purple and blue edges recede. The glass of the vase remains visible throughout, with clear reflections along the shoulder and base serving as a reminder that this spectacle is neatly contained behind a thin wall.

Such a wealth of colour against a deep black background lends the image a rich and luxurious feel. It really comes into its own above a sideboard, in a dining room or against a minimalist wall. For those who love surrealism, smoke photography or images in which beauty and power lie close together, this is a print you’ll never tire of looking at. An eruption with nowhere to go.
