A beach chair idyll around 1900

by Belle Époque

This historic black-and-white photograph authentically captures the early seaside culture of the turn of the century. At the centre of the scene, an elegantly dressed group sits in a classic, spacious beach chair, nestled deep within the natural sand dunes. The details of the photograph are remarkable: From the high-necked dresses typical of the era and the ladies’ artfully draped hats to the children’s traditional attire. A lively maritime backdrop unfolds in the background. A smoking paddle steamer, a moored rowing boat and a bustling wooden jetty lend the photograph a strong sense of spatial depth and reflect the maritime spirit of the 1900s.

The motif captures the relaxed atmosphere of a historic summer retreat and conveys a palpable, nostalgic tranquillity. The original antique photograph has been carefully digitally restored. The focus was on preserving the characteristic vintage look and historical tonality, whilst at the same time precisely bringing out the contrasts in the clothing and the landscape features.

As a wall hanging, this photograph has a special impact. It serves as an elegant, historical anchor in modern, bright living spaces or seamlessly complements interior design concepts in a maritime country house style. A timeless piece for those who appreciate historical photography and maritime elegance.
