A Look Behind the Scenes by Color Square

The work depicts a monumental female face, greatly enlarged and composed of simplified, almost graphic areas of colour. The composition deliberately crops the portrait, leaving only part of the face visible. It is precisely this extreme close-up that gives the image a powerful and mysterious aura. A single, darkly outlined eye forms the main focal point and seems to gaze at the viewer with a calm, self-assured look. The combination of soft skin tones – peach, beige and almost black – is striking. The large pink-peach-coloured shape on the right suggests a cheek, whilst dark areas around the eye, nose and lips give the face structure. Details are not rendered realistically, but reduced to sharp lines and organic forms. As a result, the work occupies a space somewhere between portraiture, abstraction and modern illustration.
Up close, the weathered textures are particularly striking. Scratches, grainy patches and uneven layers of paint lend the clean-cut forms a weathered character, as if the portrait had appeared on an old painted wall. Around the eye in particular, geometric lines and rough textures clash.
The result is a modern female portrait in which beauty is sought not in perfection, but in contrast, simplicity and imperfection. A powerful gaze that feels at once elegant, aloof and intriguing.
