A Glimpse in Fragments by Color Square

The work depicts a greatly enlarged female face, in which the classical features of a portrait are reduced to bold planes, sharp lines and weathered textures. One eye dominates the composition. The dark eyebrow, eyeliner and eyelashes contrast sharply with the light skin, lending the gaze a self-assured, almost cinematic quality. The colour palette consists of soft peach, cream, beige and earth tones, combined with deep, almost black areas. On the right-hand side, a large, round, peach-coloured shape hovers partially over the face. This unexpected element breaks with the traditional portrait and gives the composition a distinctly graphic and abstract quality. The mouth, too, is greatly simplified: just a few dark, brushstroke-like shapes are enough to make the lips recognisable.
The many small imperfections on the surface are particularly striking. Grainy textures, blurred edges, scratches and areas where colours appear to have worn away give the work the character of a weathered mural or an old screen print. As a result, the skin almost appears to consist of different layers of paper and paint.
The combination of a female portrait, minimalism and abstract art makes the image both modern and somewhat retro. The face is recognisable, but never fully revealed – it is precisely this fragmentation that makes the gaze so intriguing.
