In the Netherlands, the Rodekoolzwammetje is called the Amethistzwam. Both names have been used for so long, that both were kept as valid Dutch names. This mushroom is usually found in small groups, it is a tree companion especially of oak and beech. The cap is dark purple when wet and pales light purple when dry. Although the plates are purple, this fungus has white spore powder. Another striking feature are the widely spaced plates.
