The digital artwork titled Close Encounters shows a dreamy, summer scene that evokes an almost otherworldly atmosphere. Against a crisp, cloudless sky, two day peacock butterflies walk head-on towards each other. Their colourful wings - with distinctive eye spots - seem to glow with light in the bright sunlight. Below them grow six stylised daisies, each carefully shaped with geometric precision. The leaves have an almost graphic appearance, giving the flowers an abstract, modern impression.
What immediately stands out are the butterflies' antennae: each ends in a small, glowing red dot - a clear reference to the iconic moment from the film E.T., in which the alien's finger lights up when touched. This subtle sci-fi nod lifts the work to a symbolic level. The butterflies seem about to touch each other with their luminous antennae - a fragile, charged moment of connection.
The title playfully references the film classic Close Encounters of the Third Kind and reinforces the idea of a mysterious encounter, here between two earthly but almost magical creatures. The serene composition, bright use of colour and precise lines give the work a sense of calm, but also of tension and anticipation. It is a poetic image about encounter, recognition and the almost otherworldly wonder that even the smallest interaction in nature can be.
