"Still Life Ruth" is a digital artwork that captures an intimate, personal composition - a still life full of memories and emotional value. At the centre is a small metal chest of drawers, sleek and utilitarian, contrasting with the warmth of the objects resting on it. Leaning against a rough, white-plastered wall are two paintings. One is a work by Tilly Moes, recognisable by its dreamy brushwork and soft colour tones. The other painting is more unfamiliar, but equally significant: together they symbolise a shared aesthetic heritage, presumably carefully selected or cherished for years by the previous owner - the father of the current owner.
On the cabinet is a copper vase, dully patinated over the years. The vase catches the diffuse light falling across the scene and casts soft, warm reflections on the metal surface below. Next to the vase is a small, wooden stamp box, with carefully painted details. This box forms the emotional heart of the still life: a tangible reminder of the father, whose love for stamps quietly manifests itself in the work.
The overall mood of "Still Life Ruth" is subdued and contemplative. The digital medium is used in a subtle way: light, texture and shadow are carefully manipulated to make the materiality of the objects palpable. The work is not a reconstruction of reality, but a digital ode to loss, heritage and the quiet life of objects that remain when people disappear.
