Born in Kiel in 1978, my journey into photography began where precision meets science: with an apprenticeship at the Schleswig-Holstein State Museum at Gottorf Castle, part of a research facility affiliated with the University of Kiel. Those early years sharpened my eye for detail and the craftsmanship behind the image.
Since graduating in 2001, I have been living and working in Hamburg as a freelance photographer. Following intensive years of apprenticeship as an assistant, I enjoyed many successful years in international advertising photography. My camera has taken me around the globe for people and lifestyle shoots, always in search of authentic moments and vivid stories.
Today, as the proud father of two children, my focus has evolved without losing sight of my roots. In my current work in the fields of art, street and lifestyle, I blend years of experience with a deep passion for analogue aesthetics.
For me, photography is far more than simply pressing the shutter button. It is a conscious process that begins with the selection and exposure of the film, continues with precise scanning, and culminates in individual image processing that preserves the character of the analogue medium. In a world full of fleeting images, I am constantly searching for the ‘moment in between’ – that unplanned, honest instant that gives a photograph its soul. Of course, I also shoot digitally.
