Long shutter speeds, night photography, still lifes, shooting subjects from a different angle, vintage lenses, color, but also black and white. Very specific actually, but also diverse ...
Once when I started with photography, it obviously wasn't that great. Between then and about 7 years later, photo-academy Fotogram in Amsterdam, I always photographed hobby-like. I stopped after about 1.5 years because moved, blurred and poorly exposed photos were beautiful? I did not understand that, but for some it might have been good(?) Not for me.
Of course I photographed analogue, with a Hasselblad (beautiful!). I might never shoot digital... now I do. Sony came up with SLRs on the market, but that would never be for me... now I do. Well when I found out that on certain Sony system cameras all kinds of very old lenses fit.
Yes, that's my thing. The character, the atmosphere, slight blur, imperfections, soft contrast, etc. Character! That often modern equipment doesn't have anymore, but in spite of that I use a modern digital workflow for post-processing.
Expect from me a bit different photography than usual, the photo academy with their artistic vision might have been good for something...
Hopefully my work may get's a place on the wall from some of you.
With a visual greeting,
Jack Vermeulen
