Studio Ignacio Poblet
Works for the Exhibition in Mexico
In these two paintings for the exhibition in Mexico, Ignacio Poblet sees familiar machines in an unexpected light. In Polvo eres, he revisits a yellow truck he remembers from his childhood in Lima. On its grille, he changes a single letter: VOLVO becomes POLVO, the Spanish word for ‘dust’. A childhood memory becomes a reflection on mortality. Dormido en el veneno began with a glimpse through an airport window: the boarding bridge seemed to be swallowing the plane. In the painting, the bridge takes the form of a two-headed serpent from Peru’s Chavín culture.
