The crested fowl coot (Chauna torquata) belongs to the family of fowl coot (Anhimidae). It is found in certain regions of South America, including Bolivia and Uruguay.
Adult crested fowl coots have a total length of 90 centimetres and usually weigh not much more than 2½ kg.
Outside the breeding season they live together in large colonies, often in swampy areas, but always in close proximity to water. The large nest is built in shallow water or on a bank. An average of five eggs are laid, which are incubated by both parents. The young are nestlings.
