Rotterdam's Market Hall is an architectural icon and one of the city's most popular attractions. Opened in 2014, the building uniquely combines living, working and shopping under one spectacular roof. The market hall's arched structure immediately stands out for its modern design, which was conceived by architecture firm MVRDV. The building not only houses numerous stalls with fresh produce, restaurants and shops, but also flats with unique views of the inside of the hall.
One of the most striking elements of the Market Hall is the huge artwork on the ceiling, called "Horn of Plenty," created by artists Arno Coenen and Iris Roskam. Covering a whopping 11,000 square metres, this colourful artwork shows a spectacular display of flowers, fruit and other food items, and adds to the lively atmosphere of the hall. It has even been called the "Sistine Chapel of Rotterdam" for its impressive scale and beauty.
The Market Hall is a melting pot of cultures and flavours, with food stalls offering dishes and products from all corners of the world. It is a popular spot for locals and tourists alike, who come here to taste, shop or just enjoy the special ambience.
For photographers, the Market Hall offers endless opportunities, from the colourful stalls and impressive ceiling to the contrast with the city's surrounding modern architecture.
