The Apeldoorns Kanaal is a canal In the Netherlands. The waterway runs from the IJssel near Dieren to the IJssel near Hattem and is closed at Apeldoorn by dams with culverts.[2] It had the function of "lateral canal" parallel to the IJssel from 1868 to 1961. At low and high river levels, the IJssel was very difficult to navigate due to insufficient draught and strong current, respectively. The route via the canal was then also very attractive, especially for small ships. In 1972, it was permanently closed to navigation.
