Salt extraction is quite a business in southern France deep in the Camarque. Everywhere, dams are built in the sea over which cars can drive to extract the salt left by evaporation. When the sun shines, the salt turns the water pink. In this photo, the sun is not shining and you get a very dark look in the evening light.
The ironwork on the right gives it something industrial.
