Venice's lagoon is home to many islands, Burano being perhaps the most colourful of them all.
The island is inhabited by a fishing community, who go out in the early hours of the day. Because of its location in the lagoon, the island is regularly blanketed in fog at sunrise. To be able to find their home again, everyone has painted their house a different colour.
During my stay in Venice, I slept one night on this island. In order to photograph the colourful houses during the quiet hours. I made this image of a pizzeria at seven in the morning, when all the shops and restaurants were closed.
The mint green colour of this facade really stands out. The folded tables add a playful element to this picture. It is a calm symmetrical image, yet there is a lot to see.
