It is early morning, just after the sun is up. I am walking along the meadow and there is a very light mist hanging over the grass. Not thick, but such a soft haze that makes everything just a little quieter and more peaceful. As if the world hasn't quite decided to wake up yet.
In front of me are a pair of Scottish highlanders. They graze quietly, as if time does not exist for them. Occasionally they lift their heads and look around languidly, but otherwise they seem totally absorbed in their own rhythm. The sunlight hits their fur and colours it a warm reddish-brown, and between the trees sun harps break through - thin golden rays that almost make the mist glisten.
And as I stand there, I think how special such mornings actually are. Nothing spectacular happens, and yet it feels special. Like getting to see a little piece of the world that hardly anyone else sees, because most are still asleep. This is one of those moments that forces you to stand still for a moment and just look, breathe.
I could stand here for hours more, but I know that soon the sun will rise higher, the fog will clear and the day will truly begin. And maybe that's exactly what makes this so beautiful - it only lasts a moment, and that's why I enjoy it extra.
