About ‘morning mist on the Amstel’ by Franka Poulain

A soft veil of mist hangs over the water. The city is not yet awake. The facades dissolve into grey and become more memory than reality. Only the contours remain. The water is still, almost mirror-like, but without sharp reflection. Everything is muted.
This work exudes silence. The moment just before movement. The colours are limited to brown, beige and soft grey, giving the image an almost timeless character. It could be yesterday, or a hundred years ago. The mist softens the architecture and makes the city vulnerable.
This work brings tranquillity to a space. It invites you to slow down. It is suitable for minimalist interiors, for places where breathing space is important. It does not capture the hustle and bustle of Amsterdam, but rather the intimacy of a morning when the city is still its own.
