Evening sun is the special illumination of the sun in the early evening, which can occur in clear to slightly cloudy weather. It thus contrasts with the dawn, the dawn, also called the morning red. It is the opening scene of twilight. What is illuminated by the evening sun undergoes an optical transformation that is generally considered pleasant.
Sometimes the evening sun can colour the sky evening red.
The term has a place in everyday language, except perhaps in urbanised areas with subcultures living among high-rise buildings. Country houses bear the name Evening Sun or Villa Evening Sun and are built for it. As a name for buildings, Evening Sun is also used metaphorically in the sense of the last stage of life. Several nursing homes, such as Avondzon in Northbroek, are the representatives of this.
Friesland has a long coastline, stretching along the IJsselmeer and the Wadden Sea. The province is mainly on the mainland, but also includes a number of Wadden Islands.
Friesland is part of Greater Friesland, a historical region that stretched from North Holland to today's Danish border. Because of its historical location, people also speak of Westerlauwers Friesland, west of the river Lauwers. Derived from this is the German name Westfriesland.[3]
In terms of total area (including water), Friesland is the largest province in the Netherlands. In terms of land area, it ranks third. The province is very low lying. The highest point on the mainland is the Bosberg near Appelscha (26.6 metres). Including the Wadden Islands, the highest point is at the Vuurboetsduin (45 m).
The mainland section borders the provinces of Flevoland, Overijssel, Drenthe and Groningen. A border with North Holland also exists via the Afsluitdijk.
