This photo was taken in Kruger National Park in South Africa, one of the continent's most famous and oldest game reserves. In the soft morning light, two zebras rest close together, a typical behaviour within the herd. By standing like this, they not only keep an eye on each other, but also help keep flies and other insects away.
The zebra is instantly recognisable by its distinctive black and white stripes, which not only serve as camouflage against predators, but also help regulate body temperature. No two zebras have the same pattern - each zebra carries its own unique 'fingerprint'.
The warm hues of the morning light and the natural patterns of the animals convey a sense of calm and balance. This photograph captures an everyday but special moment in the life of the African savannah, where harmony and survival go hand in hand.
