Zebra finch on a branch in front of a blue sky with clouds
The zebra finch is one of the best known and most widely kept aviary birds in the Netherlands. The origin of the zebra finch lies in Australia. Because there have been strict import and export bans for a long time, no birds have come from Australia for years. Actually, all zebra finches now in Europe are not wild zebra finches but bred zebra finches. It is a tropical bird that adapts well to our climate, making it fine to keep in an outdoor aviary. It is a bird that is not shy or sensitive and can therefore also be a suitable bird for novice bird lovers.
