I photographed these two young Friesian horses during sunset, with beautiful backlight highlighting their silhouettes. Young horses grow up best in a group, where they not only get a lot of exercise, but also develop social skills. As a photographer, it is a wonderful experience to be in the middle of such a herd and capture their natural behaviour. Here you see two yearlings scratching each other in places they cannot reach themselves-a familiar and social moment that strengthens their mutual bond.
I chose to convert this photo in sepia. This gives the image a warm, timeless look and puts the focus on the shapes and the play between light and shadow. The soft, nostalgic nature of sepia perfectly suits the serene atmosphere of this shot.
This work looks great in a soothing interior. In a country or classic setting, it emphasises the natural beauty of horses, while in a modern interior it adds a warm and elegant touch. Perfect for the living room, bedroom or a stylish workspace. A picture that sums up the purity and harmony of horses in one powerful image.
