I saw this young black-crowned night-heron perched along the waterfront in one of the many bays on the Argentine side of the Beagle channel, no doubt waiting for a fresh meal. He was not bothered with me at all, I could get very close to him. In Spanish this heron is called a garza bruja, which means something like heron witch. A somewhat peculiar name they mainly owe to their hunched posture and thick, short neck. The heron is a migratory bird and only spends the spring and summer months at the southern most tip of Argentina.
