High in the Sierra Nevada lies Yosemite National Park. The landscape is varied: high mountains, glaciers, waterfalls, lakes and forests with the largest redwood trees in the world. The most beautiful sights of Yosemite National Park are Tioga Road, the Yosemite Falls and Glacier Points view of the Yosemite Valley. Also called 'the incomparable valley', the valley with its high waterfalls and huge granite rock formations is the main attraction and also the center of the park. The name Yosemite literally means 'among them are killers'. It is a derived form of a Native American word by which the original inhabitants of the region were referred to. Yosemite became a national park in 1890 and is currently one of the most visited national parks in the United States.
