The Ir. D.F. Wouda Pumping Station is the largest steam pumping station in the world that is still in operation. Queen Wilhelmina opened the old steam pumping station in the year 1920.
Even today, the Wouda pumping station continues to play a crucial role in the water management of Friesland!
Since 1998, the Woudagemaal has been one of the ten UNESCO World Heritage sites in the Netherlands.
