About the artwork
This brick wall was not created using AI (artificial intelligence) but with traditional craft modelling and photoshop work. Brick by brick was laid digitally, with this original world map, this cartographic brick relief, as a result.
The virtual bricks are in Dutch waalformat and the wall is laid in half-brick bond. Each layer represents five degrees latitude. A "stretch" (the long side of a brick) represents twenty degrees longitude.
There are a few "peculiarities". A roll layer with heads forms the equator, the polar regions are formed by roll layers with stretches. And at the location of the tropics there is a layer with heads.
The hue variation of the bricks has made it a nice multicoloured wall. And by adding some signs of the times - lime scale, moss and lichen, the relief becomes even more colourful.
Assuming a layer height of 62.5 millimetres, this wall would be 2.25 metres high and 4.5 metres wide. Perfect for a life-size print on wallpaper, but it also looka great at smaller sizes.
