Woman with an iris in a moment of tranquillity by But First Framing

A woman with her eyes closed fills the frame, with a large blue-violet iris beside her face. Her head is turned slightly and her posture exudes calm and self-confidence. Her bright pink lips, golden earrings and the warm brown tones of her skin stand out beautifully against the soft pink background.

She wears a light headscarf featuring pink flowers and leaves in dark green and olive brown. This pattern links the portrait to the flower in the foreground. The graceful petals almost touch her cheek, whilst long green leaves grow upwards along her shoulder. The face and the iris are given equal attention and seem to tell a single story together.

The distinct areas of colour and visible brushstrokes give the work a lively, painterly quality. The deep blue of the iris immediately catches the eye. Then you discover the soft shadows on the face, the curved eyelashes and the rounded shapes of the jewellery. The closed eyes bring a sense of tranquillity to the colourful composition.

The portrait evokes a moment of peace, entirely for yourself. The relaxed expression and the exuberant flower complement one another. Soft pink creates a friendly atmosphere, whilst blue, green and gold lend the work a powerful character.
