About ‘Winter silence between Slenaken and Teuven’ by Peter Kuipers

Between Slenaken and Teuven, the landscape stretches in soft layers of light and stillness. Winter has lightly touched the field; hoarfrost glistens on the grass and mutes every colour into a subdued palette of blue-grey and soft green. The morning fog hangs low and moves slowly across the slopes, as if the land does not want to wake up quite yet.

In the distance, trees faintly outline themselves, their silhouettes fading in the light that gently breaks through the mist. The sun is low and scatters its first rays across the slope, slowly giving depth to the landscape. What was hidden at first is revealed bit by bit, but never fully revealed.

Here, on the border between the Netherlands and Belgium, time seems to lose its grip for a moment. No rush, no noise - just the breath of the land itself. It is a place of transition: between night and day, between countries, between seeing and feeling. In this silence lies a calm power, an invitation to slow down and keep looking. Because sometimes a landscape tells the most enduring story precisely in its gentleness.
