Windmill near Ahrenshoop, Carl Malchin
Carl Malchin is considered the most important representative of realistic landscape painting in Mecklenburg at the end of the 19th/beginning of the 20th century. In the early 1880s Malchin discovered the Pomeranian fishing village of Ahrenshoop. The village, which was at that time as remote and poor from modern life as if it had been left out, fascinated him with its unique brittle aura. Here Malchin painted the "Windmill of Ahrenshoop" in 1891.
