Scottish highlanders are not the only grazers you may encounter on the Veluwezoom. On the southern side of the Veluwezoom, a herd of Icelandic horses lends nature a helping hand. The Icelandic horses eat the grass in between the heather, so the heather stays real heather. With their hooves, they loosen the soil, creating bare patches between the dense heather mounds.
