The inner harbour of Den Bosch was excavated in the middle of the 14th century. Originally, the harbour lay outside the city; outside the first city wall and functioned as a moat. The western side of the Binnenhaven is the Brede Haven, built between 1441 and 1449. However, it used to be called Achter den Steenoven, after a corner house called 'De Steenoven'. It has now become an apartment complex.
