Lions usually have a hazel or golden brown color for their fur. However, in the case of white lions, the fur is completely white or a very pale version of the usual hazel fur. The color of the fur can vary from blond to almost white. This discoloration is inherited from the parents, but is a recessive trait, meaning that there is a greater chance of a hazelnut colored lion being born from hazel than from a white lion. Similarly, breeding into white lions can result in brown necks.
