White-crowned mangabeys or sooty mangabeys live mainly in Upper Guinea on the coast of West Africa. Originally the habitat stretched from the Casamance river in Senegal to the Sassandra / Nzo rivers in Ivory Coast, but the population has been greatly reduced and they are almost extinct in Senegal, Guinea-Bissau and parts of Guinea. Large numbers still occur in Sierra Leone, Liberia and western Ivory Coast. The habitat overlaps that of other mangabey species. Photo taken at the zoo.
