About ‘Where winter and sea converge’ by Peter Kuipers

On the western side of Ameland, the boundary between beach, sea and sky becomes blurred. Snow lies like an untouched canvas over the sand, softening every line in the landscape. The dunes quietly recede into the background, while the light from the low sun gives the beach a warm glow. Everything here seems to stand still for a moment.

This photograph exudes space and simplicity. No distractions, no noise — just the play of light, colour and silence. The winter beach feels endless and invites you to slow down, to wander with your thoughts. The subtle tones and soft transitions make this image timeless and calming. A moment when nature has nothing to prove, but can simply be. This photograph brings the tranquillity of the island indoors and reminds us of the power of emptiness, silence and the ever-changing Wadden Sea.
