Where waves meet colours – Sea, beach and parasols by Bianca ter Riet

This digital painting depicts a dreamy coastal landscape from a bird’s-eye view, in which the beach and the sea blend together in an expressive manner. Along the left-hand side are colourful parasols in shades of blue, pink, turquoise, orange and purple, which provide playful accents that contrast with the soft sand. The central pink parasol immediately catches the eye and forms the visual focal point of the composition.

On the right, the sea fills a large part of the picture. Loose, vigorous brushstrokes in various shades of blue, turquoise and white suggest the movement of the waves breaking on the beach. The transition between water and sand is not sharply defined, but fluid and picturesque, giving the scene an almost abstract quality. Warm peach, cream and sandy colours soften the overall effect and create a balance between the cool tones of the ocean and the warmth of the beach.

The visible brushwork gives the work a tangible, artisanal quality, despite its digital nature. Light and colour take centre stage: bright white accents evoke the impression of sunlight glistening on the water, whilst subtle areas of colour create depth and movement. The composition naturally guides the eye along the coastline, from the colourful parasols to the undulating sea.

The painting exudes a sense of tranquillity, freedom and summery relaxation. At the same time, the loose, impressionistic style allows the viewer space to recognise their own memories and emotions within the image.
