About "Where the spirit comes to rest - The call of the earth"

by Walter G. Allgöwer

About the artwork

In the quiet semi-darkness of Wat Benchamabophit, also known as the marble temple, a monk bows in deep meditation before the sublime figure of Phra Buddha Chinnarat. His bright orange robe contrasts with the golden splendour of the Buddha statue - a powerful image of devotion and inner concentration.
The statue shows Buddha Gautama in the Bhumispara mudra, the gesture in which he calls the earth to witness his enlightenment. It is a moment of deep spiritual meaning, captured in the touch of his right hand to the ground. The Buddha sits in perfect stillness, his posture radiating clarity, balance and timeless wisdom.
Behind him rises a backdrop of precious gold, skilfully decorated with floral elements, dragon figures and traditional symbols of Buddhism. The dark wall in the background almost makes the Buddha glow - as if he were not made of metal but moulded from light.
This moment when man and Buddha meet is more than just religious practice - it is a silent dialogue with the eternal. There is a breath of enlightenment in the air, palpable for anyone who pauses and opens up.
