About ‘Where the past whispers’ by Esther de Wit

This impressive stairwell is located in an abandoned sanatorium somewhere in Europe. Although the building has been out of use for many years, many of the original elements have been remarkably well preserved. The space exudes an atmosphere of faded glory and nostalgia, where the past and decay blend together in quiet harmony.

Eye-catching features include the elegant cast-iron staircase railing, the high ceilings with classical ornamentation, and the authentic tiled floor with a subtle geometric pattern. The walls show clear signs of decay — peeling paint, weathered plaster, and discoloration — all contributing to a poetic image of a place that was once vibrant and functional. Large windows allow filtered daylight to enter, softly illuminating the dust in the air and giving the space an almost sacred atmosphere.

This location raises questions about the people who once came and went here, about care, rest, and healing — and about what remains when time moves on. Every detail tells a story; every corner invites exploration.

This stairwell is a tangible remnant from another era, full of character, history, and mystery. A place where the past whispers, and the beauty of decay is revealed in striking detail. A hidden gem waiting to be rediscovered.

At Art Heroes we do not mass produce or keep stock, but make to order. Your artwork is made with passion by experienced craftsmen and is on average ready for shipment in 7 business days. Details on the exact delivery date will be sent after placement of the order. Depending on the shipping country the following delivery times apply:

Is your order a gift for someone? We can create you a gift voucher that displays the artwork(s) you ordered, so you have something to give while the artwork is being printed. Just send us an e-mail and we’ll take care of it.

How will the package be sent?

We work with several carriers, mainly UPS and DHL (Depending on the country where it is delivered, this may vary). Couriers can also be used for large or fragile packages.

Canvas are securely packed in plastic bubble wrap and cardboard. Wallpaper and posters are sent in sturdy tubes.

A courier collects the package from us and takes the package to a depot where it usually stays overnight. The day after it is collected and delivered to your home or office. We work with courier services that specialise in handling fragile parcels.

Not at home? Then the delivery driver will leave a note and an appointment can be made to schedule a new delivery.

Unfortunately, there remains a chance that something can happen during a shipment. In the unlikely event that your parcel has been damaged during transit, please take a picture of the entire item, the damage, the entire package and a picture of the shipping label. Send these photos to us by email and we will solve the problem without delay.
