About ‘Where ruggedness and beauty meet’ by Walter G. Allgöwer

The Höfats, 2259 metres high, rises like a mighty guardian above the gently curving ridges of the Allgäu Alps. From the Laufbacher-Eckweg trail, a panorama of rare drama opens up: steeply rising rocky flanks boldly bracing themselves against the sky and, in between, lush greenery clinging to the mountain slopes like a cloak. The foreground - a light-coloured boulder, polished by the wind and marked by time - draws the eye across to this unique mountain, which is one of the most striking in the Allgäu.
The Höfats is more than just a summit; it is a symbol of the wild beauty of nature. Its flanks, difficult to access and as steep as a cathedral made of stone, seem almost unapproachable. But it is precisely this untamability that makes it so fascinating. Contrasts come together here: The softness of the green mats and the ruggedness of the rock, the closeness of the path and the distance of the sublime goal.
In the light of the clear sky, the contours appear particularly sharp, almost as if the world had stood still for a moment. Standing here, you can sense the grandeur of the landscape, its unshakeable calm and the silent invitation to realise that you are part of this vastness - small, but intimately connected to the breath of the mountains.
