About ‘Where departure begins and arrival ends’ by Walter G. Allgöwer

A simple wooden ladder stands alone in the shallow waves of the Andaman Sea, as if it were a silent guardian between land and water. From the golden sandy beach of Koh Ngai Island, it juts out into the emerald green expanse - no boats for miles around, no people, just the eternal coming and going of the waves lapping at its base. It seems deserted, almost forgotten, and yet it tells of countless departures: of fishing boats at dawn, of travellers who followed the call of the distance, and of silent returnees who let themselves be carried ashore by the spray.
The landscape rests in peaceful balance - turquoise-coloured water meets a cloud-filled sky, distant islands hover on the horizon like painted dreams. And in the midst of this vastness stands the ladder, simple and unwavering, a symbol of transitions: between elements, between worlds, between moments.
In the province of Satun in southern Thailand, where time knows no haste, even such an inconspicuous object becomes poetry. This ladder is more than wood - it is an invitation to pause, to look at the horizon and perhaps to ask oneself where the next step should lead.
