About ‘Where Land and Sea Meet – Krummhörn on the Wadden Sea’ by Lex Schulte

A tranquil view across the Wadden Sea, photographed on the north German coast near Krummhörn, with the outlines of Eemshaven visible on the opposite bank of the Ems. The wide horizon, the shimmering water and the soft blue and pink hues of the evening sky create an almost serene, timeless image.
What makes this photograph special is the contrast between nature and human presence. The steps leading down from the dyke to the water, together with the visible footprints, form a natural line towards the horizon. There, the silhouettes of Eemshaven appear as a subtle reminder of the activity behind this seemingly unspoilt landscape.
Krummhörn is situated in East Frisia, at the mouth of the Ems and directly on the Wadden Sea coast. For centuries, the landscape has been shaped by the constant interplay between the sea, the tides, the dykes and human land use. The Wadden Sea has been a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 2009.
Eemshaven, on the Dutch side of the Eems, developed into a major seaport from the 1960s onwards and is now one of the largest seaports in the northern Netherlands.
