Two cormorants sit with their wings wide to let them air dry. Cormorants hunt underwater, and because their wings have no layer of fat, they get really wet. Therefore, after hunting, they often stand with their wings wide to let them dry. Has nothing to do with cooling. On the wood stump, between the two cormorants, there is also a yellow-cheeked turtle sitting in the sun. An exotic species, this turtle is native to the southeastern US and northern Mexico. They now occur en masse in the wild. Since 2016, it has been illegal to keep and sell these animals and owners have been dumping them. And are now also in the pond here in Purmerend.
