About ‘Westland Lysander’ by KC Photography

The Westland Lysander (named after the Spartan admiral Lysander) was a British liaison and reconnaissance aircraft built by Westland Aircraft. This high-decker first flew in the year 1936 and entered service with the RAF in 1938. A total of more than 1,300 were built. The aircraft's duties were artillery fire control and reconnaissance. The aircraft proved too vulnerable for its allotted role and was given other duties such as transporting people to and from German-occupied Western Europe.
