About the artwork

This weathered staircase in an abandoned building invites you on a journey into the unknown. Its worn steps are covered with a fine layer of moss, giving the feeling that nature is slowly regaining control of this place. The light shimmering through a dirty window illuminates the steps and casts mysterious shadows on the walls. The banisters, once sturdy and reliable, are now wobbly and unstable, while the plaster on the walls is crumbling away, revealing the age of this lost place.

The space around the staircase is shrouded in darkness, making the steps themselves seem like a path into the unknown. The colours that once adorned the staircase are faded and discoloured, and the textures of the wood and walls tell of the transience of time. The floor at the foot of the stairs is covered with broken bricks and pieces of wood, as if the decay of the structure was inevitable.

This scene evokes curiosity and a sense of adventure: what might be hiding at the top of these stairs? Who walked on these steps the last time? Now the staircase is just a silent witness to days gone by, a symbol of the slow but steady retreat of the human and the reconquest by nature. It is a place of silence, of decay and at the same time an invitation to explore.
