Along Saint Malo's coastline you will find hundreds of wooden poles, which serve as seawalls against the ferocious high waves.
Here in Saint Malo, the tidal range is the largest in all of Europe. There can be as much as 14 metres difference between low and high tide.
Several times a year it is spring tide (grande marée) and the water is at its highest.
When I took this photo it was low tide and I was able to take extensive pictures of the beautiful weathered wooden poles that are so characteristic of this city.
I personally love the contrast with the blue sky.
Saint Malo is traditionally a pirate city, but nowadays a very beautiful port and popular with tourists.
