Water taxi in Rotterdam's painted skyline

by Arjen Roos

Water taxi in Rotterdam's painted skyline is a painting in which the city is not literally depicted, but imagined. This artwork shows a fictional skyline of Rotterdam, in which water, architecture and atmosphere come together to create a calm and contemporary cityscape. It is not a photographic representation, but a painterly interpretation of Rotterdam and the river Meuse.

Water plays a central role in this painting of Rotterdam. The skyline is reflected in soft tones and layered textures, creating depth and movement. In this painted skyline, a water taxi sails across the river Maas. Small in size and without emphatic details, but clearly recognisable as a typical Rotterdam element. The water taxi acts as a silent inhabitant of the landscape and connects the city with the water.

This Rotterdam painting was designed in a 16:9 aspect ratio, but deliberately constructed in such a way that 3:2 and 4:3 cut-outs also work perfectly. Cutting out from the centre, the composition retains its balance and atmosphere, making the work suitable for different formats and presentations, such as modern frames and interchangeable Art Frames.

Combining painting with a subtle realistic element creates a balance between abstraction and recognition. This artwork of Rotterdam fits perfectly into a modern interior and offers a calm, contemporary view of the city's skyline.
