Wat Pho, officially known as Wat Phra Chetuphon Vimolmangklararm Rajwaramahaviharn, is one of the oldest and largest temple complexes in Bangkok. It is particularly famous for its giant reclining Buddha, covered in gold leaf and inlaid with mother-of-pearl on the soles of its feet. This impressive figure, depicting the historical Buddha in the final moments before his nirvana, attracts thousands of pilgrims and tourists every year. Wat Pho is also the centre of Thai traditional medicine and massage, recognised as the birthplace of Thai massage that is now practised worldwide. The temple complex contains a series of richly decorated chedis and beautiful murals illustrating Buddha's life, as well as a garden with a collection of stone statues. Located next to the Royal Palace, Wat Pho not only offers visitors a glimpse into the spiritual and cultural depths of Thailand, but also serves as a quiet place of reflection amid the hustle and bustle of the city.
