The island of Burano of Venice, Italy, is known for its colorful houses, painted in bright colors ranging from lime green to hot pink, from sunny yellow to brooding blue.
Walking through its streets, one is charmed by the eclectic nature of the houses and the neighborhoods, where the laundry hanging on the lines adds a soft element to the strong outline of the houses.
The artwork, Wash Day in Burano, invites you to board a vaporetto from the main island of Venice and take the short, 15-minute ride to the island. Once you disembark, you'll walk through the main business section of the town, maybe grab a gelato or sit down for a spritz at one of the outside tables and then, when you're done, take a stroll through the streets, cross the canal from side to side as you explore, and say hello to a sleeping dog, or a watchful cat.
It's a delight way, and place, to spend the day.
